Naki Margolis Irvin is head of the firm’s San Francisco office and has more than 30 years of experience representing businesses and employers in a host of litigation matters. Naki currently focuses on employment, banking and business litigation.
Naki has litigated extensively in both federal and California trial and appellate courts and has represented employers in administrative proceedings before the EEOC, DFEH, NLRB, DLSE, and other government agencies.
In addition to litigation, Naki also advises employers on compliance with federal and state employment laws, drafts and reviews employee handbooks, employment policies, job applications and employment contracts, reviews and advises on personnel actions, and audits employment and wage practices.
Prior to Margolis & Tisman, Naki served as the Head of Litigation (SVP and Associate General Counsel) at First Nationwide Bank (FNB) and Granite Management Corporation (then subsidiaries of Ford Motor Company) where she managed a nationwide litigation portfolio of cases ranging from employment litigation (wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, etc.), lender liability, class actions, and bank operations matters to real estate litigation involving the Bank's real estate portfolio. At FNB and Granite, Naki supervised a team of lawyers and paralegals, and managed outside counsel relationships.
Prior to FNB and Granite, Naki served as in-house counsel for Bank of America in three practice groups (litigation, regulatory and the Hong Kong legal office). In the litigation group, she defended significant lawsuits including lender liability, trust fiduciary claims, and bank operations matters such as large embezzlement cases. In Hong Kong, she managed the Bank's Asian litigation portfolio and outside counsel relationships and advised on U.S. laws and regulations. In the regulatory group, she presented legal seminars distributed worldwide at Bank of America offices on U.S. laws and regulations. She also prepared bank regulatory applications for foreign investments and bank acquisitions.
